Hello, I’m

Brandon
Jernigan

A Story Built Across Disciplines.

From military service to law enforcement to software development, my journey hasn’t followed a single path—and that’s the point. Each experience has added a new layer to how I approach challenges and build solutions. This portfolio is a reflection of that story.

The Backstory

How I Got Here

Turns out “pick one career” wasn’t really my thing.

I’ve spent time in the military, worked as a software engineer, and now serve in law enforcement. It’s not exactly a straight path—but each step has shaped how I think, solve problems, and approach building things.

Somewhere along the way, I figured out I just like building things—and I’m probably going to keep doing that.

Military Software Law Enforcement

Military

My professional journey began in the military, where I specialized in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), terrain analysis, and mission-focused engineering. It was an environment that demanded precision, adaptability, and the ability to perform under pressure.

It was also where I first started building—using Python to automate workflows, streamline deliverables, and solve real operational problems. That experience laid the foundation for everything that came next.

Discipline. Precision. Mission.

Software Engineering

What started as curiosity became a full transition into software. I pursued my degree, completed an immersive engineering bootcamp, and built across a wide range of systems—from legacy desktop applications to modern cloud-native platforms.

I’ve worked across defense, semiconductors, and identity security, using technologies like Java, Spring Boot, React, Kubernetes, and Azure to build scalable, reliable systems.

Build. Learn. Solve.

Law Enforcement

My path eventually brought me back into service—this time through law enforcement. It’s a role that reinforces accountability, communication, and the importance of sound decision-making in high-impact situations.

This experience continues to shape how I approach engineering: with clarity, responsibility, and a focus on building systems that people can depend on.

Integrity. Service. Accountability.

Stuff I Built Along the Way

Not everything here started as a grand idea. Some of it started as “this is annoying, I can probably fix it.”

No One Like Parallel

Rust · Serial · CLI

A lightweight serial terminal built for speed and simplicity. I wanted something that stayed out of the way and felt good to use directly from the terminal.

Harness

Python · CLI · Dev Tools

A small wrapper for terminal output that highlights the parts I actually care about. Built out of frustration with noisy logs.

Let’s Connect

Every good project starts with a conversation.

Even if it is only a one-party conversation...

If you made it this far, I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about my story and work.

I’m always open to good conversations, interesting opportunities, and the occasional “hey, this might be a weird idea...” message.
